Your design skills can help protect public health. The Canadian Covid Society is looking for a volunteer Graphic Designer who designs professionally and can give a couple of hours a week to campaigns that reach people across Canada.
About the Canadian Covid Society
We are a national non-profit founded by physicians, scientists, engineers, and advocates. Our mission is to inform the public about the health consequences of Covid infections, to advocate for science-based measures to reduce transmission, and to empower and support people with Long Covid. Our current campaigns include Clean Air in Schools, Safer Health Care, and Long Covid awareness and resources.
What you’ll do
- Design social media graphics, infographics, campaign assets, presentation decks, and print materials
- Maintain and extend our brand kit and reusable templates in a shared Canva library
- Turn scientific information into clear, accessible visuals
- Uphold accessible design: colour contrast, legibility, and layouts that work for everyone
What we’re looking for
- You design professionally, whether that’s Canva Pro every day, or Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign. We welcome the full Adobe toolkit, but our shared design library lives in Canva because it’s accessible to every volunteer, so finished work lands there
- Strong fundamentals: typography, layout, colour, and visual hierarchy
- Experience keeping a brand consistent across formats: brand kits, templates, design systems
- Comfortable owning our visual identity the way you would for a paying client
Nice to have: infographic and data-visualization experience, motion graphics, bilingual (English/French) layouts, accessibility standards (WCAG).
If design is work you’ve done for employers or clients, you’ll feel right at home here. If you’re newer to design, we’d still love your help: email us anyway; there are plenty of other ways to contribute.
Time commitment
- About 2 hours a week, on your own schedule, asynchronous-first
- One short planning meeting a month at most, approximately one hour, always remote
- 100% remote, anywhere in Canada
What you get
- A real design workflow: briefs, deadlines, an organized Canva brand library, and professional project management software
- National, portfolio-worthy campaign work with your name on it
- Collaboration with the physicians, scientists, and advocates who operate the Society
- A reference that reflects professional work
- A role designed to be flexible and accessible, including for people living with Long Covid or who are medically vulnerable
How to apply
Apply by email to [email protected] with the role name in the subject line and a few lines about your experience. Together, we can fight this.
