Reliable Covid information should read as well in French as it does in English. The Canadian Covid Society is looking for volunteer translators with excellent written French who can give a couple of hours a week to making evidence-based health information accessible to French-speaking communities across Canada.
About the Canadian Covid Society
We are a national non-profit founded by physicians, scientists, engineers, and advocates. Our mission is to inform the public about the health consequences of Covid infections, to advocate for science-based measures to reduce transmission, and to empower and support people with Long Covid. Our current campaigns include Clean Air in Schools, Safer Health Care, and Long Covid awareness and resources.
What you’ll do
- Translate social media posts, educational resources, and campaign materials from English into French
- Translate on-screen text for our videos
- Translate or create French subtitles for English interviews, webinars, and other video content
- Work with the Lead Translator and the rest of the translation team
- Revise your translations based on feedback
What we’re looking for
- Excellent written French: clear, natural, and correct, the kind that doesn’t read like a translation
- A strong grasp of English, including tone and idiom, so nothing gets lost on the way into French
- Attention to detail and comfort working collaboratively, including taking feedback on your drafts
- Nice to have: translation experience, and familiarity with Covid, Long Covid, infection prevention, or related public health topics.
If you’ve translated professionally, you’ll feel right at home here. If you haven’t but your written French is strong, apply anyway: the Lead Translator reviews and mentors, and this is a good place to build real translation experience.
Time commitment
- About 2 hours a week on average, on your own schedule, asynchronous-first; requests tend to follow our campaign and publishing calendar
- One short planning meeting a month at most, approximately one hour, always remote
- 100% remote, anywhere in Canada
