We’re developing a video interview and podcast series, and good conversations deserve good editing. The Canadian Covid Society is looking for a volunteer Video Editor who edits professionally and can give a couple of hours a week to making those conversations worth watching.

About the Canadian Covid Society

We are a national non-profit founded by physicians, scientists, engineers, and advocates. Our mission is to inform the public about the health consequences of Covid infections, to advocate for science-based measures to reduce transmission, and to empower and support people with Long Covid. Our current campaigns include Clean Air in Schools, Safer Health Care, and Long Covid awareness and resources.

What you’ll do

  • Edit episodes of our video interview and podcast series, now in development, from raw remote recordings into publishable episodes
  • Tighten the conversation: cut dead air, false starts, and stumbles so the discussion flows
  • Clean up the audio: levelling between speakers, noise reduction, and consistent volume across an episode
  • Make minor picture adjustments (colour, brightness, saturation) so remote recordings look consistent
  • Cut specified segments into short clips for social media (Reels, TikTok, Shorts) in collaboration with our social media volunteers
  • Export and organize finished files to the right specs for each platform

We are not a production house, and this isn’t broadcast volume. It’s a modest, steady series where careful editing makes the difference.

What we’re looking for

  • You edit video professionally, for an employer, for clients, or on a channel you ran to a professional standard
  • Fluency in your editor of choice: Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Descript, or equivalent. We care about the result, not the tool
  • A good ear for spoken-word audio: you can rescue an okay recording and you know when levels are off
  • A sense of pacing in conversation: knowing what to cut, and what to leave alone

Nice to have: captioning and subtitling, thumbnail design, motion graphics or lower thirds, audio-only podcast mastering, French.

If editing is work you’ve done for employers or clients, you’ll feel right at home here. If you’re newer to it, we’d still love your help: email us anyway; there are plenty of other ways to contribute.

Time commitment

  • About 2 hours a week on average, on your own schedule, asynchronous-first; editing time tends to cluster around episode releases
  • One short planning meeting a month at most, approximately one hour, always remote
  • 100% remote, anywhere in Canada

What you get

  • A real post-production workflow: briefs, deadlines, organized shared files, and professional project management software
  • An editing credit on a national interview series as it launches, with portfolio-worthy episodes and clips
  • The interviews you’ll cut are with the physicians, scientists, and advocates leading Canada’s civil-society Covid response
  • A reference that reflects professional work
  • A role designed to be flexible and accessible, including for people living with Long Covid or who are medically vulnerable
