Just two hours a week can make a real impact.
The Canadian Covid Society is run by volunteers. Physicians, scientists, engineers, designers, organizers, translators, and advocates, each giving a couple of hours a week from wherever they live in Canada.
Two hours is a small commitment on its own, but put a dozen people’s two hours behind the same campaign and it becomes a policy brief in front of a school board, an infographic that changes how a parent thinks about the air in their kid’s classroom, or a French translation that reaches families throughout the country.
Open Roles
The commitment
- About 2 hours a week, on your own schedule, asynchronous-first
- One short planning meeting a month at most, approximately one hour, always remote
- 100% remote, from anywhere in Canada
Some roles cluster their hours rather than spreading them evenly. Translation follows our publishing calendar, and video editing tends to bunch around episode releases. Each posting says so where it applies.
What we’re looking for
We look for professional-level skill in the role’s own field. That does not mean a title, a credential, or a health background. It means you have done this kind of work for an employer or a client, or at an equivalent level, and you can own your piece of it the way you would for a paying client.
What you get
- Real infrastructure to work in: briefs, deadlines, organized shared files, and professional project management software
- National, portfolio-worthy work with your name on it
- Collaboration with the physicians, scientists, and advocates who operate the Society
- A reference that reflects professional work
- A role designed to be flexible and accessible, including for people living with Long Covid or who are medically vulnerable
Many of the people who build this organization live with Long Covid or are at high risk from infection. The roles are asynchronous, remote, and light on meetings because that is what makes them possible for us, too.
FAQs
Do I need a health or science background?
No. Our physicians and scientists handle the science. We need your professional skill, whatever field it is in.
Is it really only two hours a week?
Yes, that is the honest average commitment that we’re looking for. Some weeks are quieter and some are busier. If a role starts creeping past what you signed up for, we want to hear about it so we can fix it.
Do I have to live in Canada?
The roles are built for volunteers across Canada. If you are outside the country and want to help, email us anyway and we will see what fits.
I have Long Covid or another chronic illness. Should I still volunteer?
Yes. These roles were designed with that in mind: no commute, no camera-on requirements, no set hours, and one short meeting a month on average.
Are these paid positions?
No. We are still establishing our financial foundation. Every role listed here is a volunteer role. What we can offer is real work, real credit, and a reference that reflects it.
None of these roles fit me. Now what?
Email us anyway. Tell us what you are good at or what you’re interested in. The list above reflects what we need most right now, not everything we could use.
